Danielle Coronado enter her second season at DMACC.

"Danielle has played and coached in our conference and is very familiar with the skill level of our conference and what is expected of it," Head Coach Danielle Lopez said. "She brings a lot to our program."

Lopez said Coronado helps with all phases of the DMACC volleyball program, including strength and conditioning and that she'll be very helpful with recruiting since Coronado is originally from Mason City, IA. "Her specialty is defense so she will help a lot with defense, especially back row defense," Lopez said.

Coronado said coaching at DMACC is a new opportunity for her and that that is what led her to apply for the assistant coaching position at DMACC. "DMACC is known as a legacy, especially in their athletics and who wouldn't want to be a part of that," Coronado said. "I feel like I'm going to bring knowledge and passion to the DMACC program. I've already been in an assistant coaching position in this conference so I am very familiar with what to expect and I cannot wait to enhance our back-row defense as well as our serve receive."

In her first season she helped coach the Blackhawks to a 22-17 winning record and advance to regionals for the second straight year. She helped produce one Athlete of the Week, one All-Tournament Team Region XI-B player, two All-Conference Honorable Mentions, two Second Team All-Conference Region XI-B, and one First Team All-Region XI-B. Coronado helped produce one top conference defensive specialist, earning All-Region, All-Conference Honors.

In her second season (COVID Year) she helped coach the Blackhawks to a 7-15 record and helped advance the Blackhawks to regionals for the third straight year.Helped produce two Honorable Mention All-Conference players, one All-Tournament Team Region XI-B player, along with one Second Team All-Conference player and one Second Team All-Region XI-B player. Coronado helped produce one top conference defensive specialist earning ICCAC Defensive Athletes of the Week along with National Player of the Week. 

In her third season with the Blackhawks she was named Interim Head Coach for SECC. Helping them to a 21-19 winning record and leading them to their fourth consecutive regional tournament appearance. This was the year of many firsts for the Blackhawks. Coronado helped lead the Blackhawks to a 3-1 record (only dropping to top ranked Heartland- DI) on opening weekend and this was the first time the Blackhawks had done so since 2013. This was also the first time SECC finished 5-4 in the ICCAC Conference and tied for 4th in conference, both had not been accomplished since 2013. It was also the first time SECC had beaten NIACC since 2018. Coronado helped produce one top conference defensive specialists, earning All-Region, All-Conference Honors along with producing two Second Team All-Region XI-A players, one Second Team All-Conference player, one First Team All-Conference player, one All-Tournament Team Region XI-A player, and two Honorable Mention All-Conference players. 

Over her past three seasons, Coronado has helped transfer numerous athletes out of SECC to play on at four year institutions/universities at all levels.Coronado was named the Women's Assistant Volleyball Coach in 2019 for Southeastern Community College.

Originally from Mason City, Iowa, Coronado played for Iowa Central Community College while simultaneously coaching with the STORM Volleyball Club. During her time at Iowa Central she earned ICCAC Athlete of Week, earned Second Team All-Academic honors, named 2016 Triton Invitational Team All-Libero, named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2016 Triton Invitational, earned Second Team All-Region XI-B honors, was a two-time Honorable Mention All-ICCAC selection, and was twice named Second Team Academic All-Region. She finished her sophomore season with 606 digs, 21 assists, and 33 service aces. Coronado had 32 matches with 10 or more digs and 18 matches with 15 or more digs. She had a career high, 35 digs, against North Platte Community College. Freshman season, she played in 15 matches for ICCC. She finished her first collegiate season with 62 digs for an average of 1.51 digs per set. Coronado had a season high, 19 digs, against Kirkwood Community College. 

After receiving her Associates of Science Degree, she went on to compete at Ottawa University (KS, NAIA) where she helped the Braves win the 2017 KCAC Conference Championship and went on to nationals. She was also named to the Dean’s List and earned KCAC All-Scholar Athlete. She then transferred to compete at Briar Cliff University (IA, NAIA), where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management. She appeared in all 96 sets for the Chargers and tallied a team-high 310 digs, 44 assists and had 21 service aces. She notched four aces against Waldorf University and 22 digs against Presentation as season-highs. Upon graduation, in the spring semester, Coach Coronado made the Dean’s List with a perfect 4.0. Also, while at Briar Cliff, she coached for Raider Power Volleyball Club, leading the team to a 6th place victory at State AAU in the gold bracket in Marshalltown, IA. 

Coronado also coached for Grayhound Volleyball 17U Club team, located in Burlington, IA advancing them to nationals for the first time in club history (unfortunately canceled due to COVID) along with being a Substitute Teacher in the Burlington Community School District. Adding to her personal accomplishments, she was a recipient of the 2019 AVCA Diversity Award and was hired to help run the University of Texas summer camps (unfortunately canceled due to COVID). 

She is in charge of all aspects of strength and conditioning, recruiting, and main contributor to our defense. She also helps out in Student Services and is an R.A. on campus. Coach Coronado is looking forward to continuing to make an impact to not only the program, but to all students and student-athletes at DMACC.
