DMACC women's cross country team wins Bill Buxton Invitational

 

The DMACC women's cross country team began the 2024 season on a positive note with a victory in the Bill Buxton Invitational August 30 at Indianola.

 

The Bears, led by a second-place finish from sophomore Kayden Spencer of Boone, scored 21 points and came away with a 15-point advantage over runner-up Simpson College (SC). SC's Teghan Booth won the individual competition with a time of 16 minutes, 17 seconds over the 4K course.

 

Spencer's second-place time was 16:54 and she led four other DMACC runners to seventh place or better. And all DMACC runners finished 16th or better.

 

Sophomore Grace Collins of Johnston finished third in 17:15 and freshman Jaycie Vohs of Galva was fourth in 17:16. Freshman Abigail Harding of Iowa Falls crossed the finish line in 17:17, good for fifth place, and sophomore Tori Yunggebauer of Williamsburg was seventh in 17:25. Freshman Dakota Tromblay of Ogden rounded out DMACC's performance with a 16th-place finish in 19:15.

 

The DMACC women's cross country team will run in the Trent Smith Invitational Sept. 13 at Mason City.
