Segura leads DMACC women's cross country team to 15th-place finish in National Championships

 

Sophomore Natalia Segura of Grimes finished 13th overall and led the DMACC women's cross country team to a 15th-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Cross Country Championships November 12 at Tallahassee, Fla.,

 

Segura's time over the 5K course was 19 minutes, 48 seconds and her finish was good enough to earn All-American honors.

 

DMACC got a 54th-place finish from freshman Mkenzie Robinson of Marshalltown and freshmen Madison and Mercedes Beaune, both of Jewell, finished 108th and 125th respectively. Sophomore Wendy Liera of LeGrand rounded out DMACC's performance by finishing in 135th place. Robinson was timed in 21:12, Madison Beaune finished in 22:49, Mercedes Beaune posted a time of 23:31 and Liera crossed the finish line in 24:05.

 

DMACC freshmen Jillian Prouty of Oelwein and sophomore Natalie Martin of Norwalk rounded out the Bears' performance by finishing in 136th and 140th place respectively. Prouty's time was 24:05 and Martin posted a time of 24:20.

 

Lansing Community College (LCC) took the team championship with 57 points and Hayley Burns of Coconino Community College (CCC) won individual honors with a time of 18:22.

 

The meet closed out the season for the DMACC women's cross country team.
