Sophomore Natalia Segura of Grimes finished sixth in the individual competition and led the DMACC women's cross country team to a second-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Championships Oct. 30th at Fort Dodge.
The Bears scored 89 points and finished behind Southeastern Community College (SECC), which took the team championship with 69 points. SECC's Aisha Ramone won the individual competition with a time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds over the 5K course.
Segura posted a time of 19:43 in finishing sixth.
Freshman Mkenzie Robinson of Marshalltown narrowly missed a top-10 finish as she placed 11th in 20:54. Freshmen Madison Beaune and Mercedes Beaune, both of Jewell, were 20th and 25th, respectively, and sophomore Wendy Liera of LeGrand rounded out DMACC's performance with a 27th-place finish. Madison Beaune posted a time of 22:07, Mercedes Beaune crossed the finish line in 22:50 and Liera had a time of 23:07.
DMACC sophomore Natalie Martin of Norwalk and freshman Jillian Prouty of Oelwein also ran in the meet. Martin was 31st in 23:29 and Prouty was 36th in 24:47.
The DMACC women's cross country team will run in the NJCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships Nov. 12th at Tallahassee, Fla.
