- Sophomore Abbi Brenizer leads DMACC with 14 kills
- Sophomore Aquarina Thomas has 13 kills, three ace serves and 10 digs
- Sophomore Halia Mahi comes away with 32 assists
Sophomores Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk and Aquarina Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., combined for 27 kills as the DMACC volleyball team handed North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) a 3-0 loss in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup October 23 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Set scores were 25-13, 25-23, 25-14.
Brenizer had 14 kills and hit .520 and Thomas finished with 13 kills and a .393 hitting percentage as the Bears improved to 19-14 overall and 7-3 in the ICCAC. Brenizer got her 14 kills from 25 attacks with one hitting error and Thomas' 13 kills came from 28 attacks with three hitting errors. Thomas' night also included three ace serves and 10 digs.
As a team DMACC hit .297, getting 38 kills from 91 attacks with 11 hitting errors. The Bears hit .538 in the third set with 16 kills from 26 attacks with two hitting errors.
Sophomore Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls topped DMACC in assists with 32 and sophomore Lexie Lane of Renwick joined Thomas with three ace serves.
Freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls led the Bears in digs with 21 and sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn joined Thomas in double figures with 17 digs. DMACC got three block assists each from Brenizer and Mahi and sophomore Maggie Johnston of Boone and freshman Emma Liechti of Ankeny had two blocks apiece. Johnston had one block assist and Liechti came away with two.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Iowa Central Tournament Oct. 25 and 26 at Fort Dodge. The Bears will face Neosho County Community College (NCCC) and Cowley County Community College (CCCC) on Oct. 25 and will play Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) and Allen County Community College (ACCC) on Oct. 26.
CCCC is the top-ranked team in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and is 26-0 for the season. KCKCC is ranked 16th and has an 18-5 record.
