DMACC volleyball team takes 3-1 decision from WITCC

 

Sophomore Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk and freshman Jaelynne Clarke of Alliance, Neb., had 14 kills apiece as the DMACC volleyball team handed Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) a 3-1 loss Oct. 17 at Sioux City.

 

The Bears won by set scores of 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 26-24 to improve to 18-14 overall and 6-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Brenizer hit .303 with her 14 kills coming from 33 attacks with four hitting errors. Clarke got her 14 kills from 46 attacks with seven hitting errors for a .152 hitting percentage. As a team, DMACC hit .207 with 51 kills from 150 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls topped the Bears in assists with 36 and sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn led four players in double figures in digs with 26. Mahi had 20 digs and sophomore Lexie Lane of Renwick and freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls had 14 and 13 respectively.

 

Freshman Emma Liechti of Ankeny led DMACC in blocks with five block assists. Brenizer had four blocks, including three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Oct. 23. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is 11-18 overall and 3-6 in the ICCAC.
