- Sophomore Abbi Brenizer leads DMACC with 10 kills
- Sophomore Halia Mahi contributes 28 assists
- Sophomore Emma Jones comes away with 22 digs
Sophomore Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk had 10 kills and freshmen Jaelynne Clarke of Alliance, Neb., and Lily Huizenga of Orange City had seven kills apiece as the DMACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) October 9 at Cedar Rapids.
KCC, ranked third in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 25-15. The loss sent DMACC to 14-12 for the season and 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
DMACC hit .140 in the loss, getting 38 kills from 129 attacks with 20 hitting errors.
Sophomore Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls led the Bears in assists with 28 and sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn led the way in digs with 22. Clarke came away with 13 kills and freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls reached double figures with 12.
Brenizer and sophomore Maggie Johnston of Boone led DMACC in blocks with three apiece. Brenizer had three block assists and Johnston had two.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Heartland Tournament today and Oct. 12 at Normal, Ill. The Bears will face Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and fourth-ranked Parkland College (PC) today and will play Spoon River Community College (SRCC) and fifth-ranked Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) on Oct. 12.
The Bears have defeated LLCC twice this season and have lost one match each to PC and HCC.
