DMACC volleyball team tops Ellsworth in three sets

 

Sophomore Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk hit .429 with 12 kills to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Sept. 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears won by sets scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 11-9 for the season ant 4-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Brenizer got her 12 kills from 21 attacks with three hitting errors. Freshman Emma Liechti of Ankeny had nine kills from a .500 hitting percentage, freshman Jaelynne Clarke of Alliance, Neb., added seven kills and sophomore Aquarina Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., finished with five as DMACC hit .265 in getting the win. The Bears had 36 kills from 110 attacks with just eight hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls led DMACC in assists with 33 and freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls led four players in double figures in digs with 16. Clarke added 15 digs and Mahi and sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn finished with 11 apiece.

 

Liechti and sophomore Maggie Johnston of Boone topped the Bears in blocks with two apiece, including one block assists each.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Oct. 2 at Norfolk, Neb. The Hawks are 14-10 overall and 3-2 in the ICCAC.
