DMACC volleyball team takes 3-0 decision from Southwestern
  • Freshman Lily Huizenga leads DMACC with 13 kills and a .632 hitting percentage
  • Sophomore Halia Mahi contributes 34 assists and 12 digs
  • Bears hit .299 in the win

 

Freshman Lily Huizenga of Orange City had 13 kills and hit .632 in leading the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) September 24 at Creston.

 

The Bears won by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 to improve to 10-9 overall and 3-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Huizenga got her 13 kills from 19 attacks with one hitting error. Sophomore Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk added 11 kills and hit .429 with those kills coming from 21 attacks with two hitting errors. Sophomore Aquarina Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., added eight kills as DMACC hit .299 in the match. The Bears came away with 40 kills from 97 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Halia Mahi of Cedar Falls led DMACC in assists with 34 and also had 12 digs. Sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn led the Bears in digs with 18. Maji, Jones and freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls had two ace serves apiece. Sophomore Maggie Johnston of Boone and freshman Emma Liechti of Ankeny had four blocks apiece. Liechti had three block assists and Johnston had two.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) today at 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ECC is 12-7 overall and 2-2 in the ICCAC.
