Clarke, Brenizer lead DMACC volleyball team past SECC, 3-1
  • Freshman Jaelynne Clark leads DMACC with 13 kills and 32 digs

Freshman Jaelynne Clarke of Alliance, Neb., and sophomore Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk had 13 and 11 kills respectively as the DMACC volleyball team handed Southeastern Community College (SECC) a 3-1 loss September 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC won by set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20. With the win the Bears improved to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Clarke hit .294 with her 13 kills coming from 34 attacks with three hitting errors. Brenizer hit .360 with 11 kills from 25 attacks with two hitting errors. DMACC, which got eight kills apiece from sophomore Aquarina Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., and freshman Lily Huizenga of Orange City, hit .187 in the match, totaling 50 kills from 155 attacks with 21 hitting errors.

 

Freshmen Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown and Riley Starkey of Winnebago, Ill., led the Bears in assists with 21 apiece and Clarke paced DMACC in digs with 32. Freshman Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls, sophomore Emma Jones of Readlyn and Anderson reached double figures in digs with 21, 20 and 10 respectively and Brenizer came away with nine.

 

Brenizer topped the Bears in blocks with seven block assists. Freshman Emma Liechti of Ankeny had three block assists and Clarke and freshman Danica Wrage of Waterloo finished with three blocks apiece, including two block assists each.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) Sept. 13 at Overland Park, Kan. JCCC is ranked second in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
