DMACC's Abbi Brenizer named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Abbi Brenizer the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (defense) for the week of September 2 to 8.

 

Brenizer, a sophomore from Norwalk, is the first member of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Brenizer started five matches and totaled 25 blocks in those matches as the Bears went 3-2 during the week. She had two block assists and two solo blocks in a 3-1 win over William Penn University Junior Varsity 1 (WPUJV) on Sept. 3 and came away with two block assists in a 3-0 win over WUPJV2, also on Sept. 3. Brenizer had six block assists in a 3-1 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) on Sept. 4 and totaled eight block assists and five block assists respectively in 3-1 and 3-0 losses to Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) and Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) on Sept. 7. HCC and SVCC were ranked fourth and 14th respectively in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). DMACC entered the week ranked 19th.

 

In 10 matches this season, Brenizer has 38 blocks, including 35 block assists, and is averaging just less than a block per set.

 

Brenizer is also an offensive standout for DMACC. She leads the Bears in kills with 93 and is hitting .310 with those 93 kills coming from 229 attacks with 22 hitting errors. Brenizer is averaging 2.29 kills per set.

 

Brenizer's season also includes three assists, 11 ace serves and 34 digs.
