DMACC's Emma Flathers named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball
  • Flathers had 158 assists as the Bears went 3-1 during the week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emma Flathers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball (offense) for the week of October 16 to 22.

 

Flathers, a sophomore from Treynor, is being honored for the third time this season. She also earned the award for the weeks of Sept. 25 to Oct. 1 and Sept. 11 to 17. Flathers is one of two members of the DMACC volleyball team to be honored during the 2023 season. Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll earned the honor defensively for the week of Sept. 11 to 17.

 

Flathers dished out 158 assists and averaged 11.29 assists per set as the Bears, ranked 12th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, compiled a 3-1 record during the week. Flathers had 22 assists in a 3-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) on Oct. 18 and came away with 48 assists in a 3-0 win over Metropolitan Community College (MCC) on Oct. 20. Flathers contributed 53 assists in a 3-2 win over 17th-ranked Neosho County Community College (NCCC), also on Oct. 20, and finished with 35 assists in a 3-0 loss to second-ranked Cowley County Community College (CCCC) on Oct. 21.

 

Flathers' season average of 10.25 assists per set is second in DMACC volleyball history and she is third in career assist average at 8.66. Flathers is ranked 10th nationally in assists per set and fifth in total assists with 1,134. She is second in the ICCAC in assists per set at 10.13.

 

Flathers' season also includes 81 kills, 42 ace serves, 306 digs and 56 blocks, including 44 block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team, 25-8 overall and tied for first place in the ICCAC at 9-1, faces Ellsworth Community College (ECC) tonight at Iowa Falls. ECC is 27-4 overall and is fourth in the ICCAC at 7-3.
