Hendricks and Matheny lead DMACC volleyball team past Marshalltown

Sophomores Zophi Hendricks of Defiance and Coryl Matheny of Glenwood had 11 and 10 kills respectively as the DMACC volleyball team swept a three set match from Marshalltown Community College (MCC) October 10 at Marshalltown.

 

The Bears won by set scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-17 to improve to 21-7 overall and 7-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Hendricks came away with a .455 hitting percentage with her 11 kills coming from 22 attacks with one hitting error and Matheny got her 10 kills from 19 attacks with three hitting errors for a .368 percentage. Sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad barely missed double figures in kills with nine and she hit .533 with those nine kills coming from 15 attacks with one hitting error. As a team, DMACC hit .376 with 40 kills from 85 attacks with eight hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor topped DMACC in assists with 35 and sophomore Jerica Heintz of Polk City contributed three ace serves. Matheny and sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll had two ace serves apiece.

 

Kenya led the Bears in digs with 21 and Matheny and Heintz finished with 18 and 12 respectively. Hendricks and sophomore Monica Mirembe had three block assists apiece.

The DMACC volleyball team will face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Oct. 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m. SWCC is 2-13 overall and 1-7 in the ICCAC.
