DMACC's Emma Feathers named ICCAC and NJCAA Athlete of the Week
  • Flathers dished out 184 assists in 18 sets during the week
  • Flathers collected hit 1,000th career assist
  • Flathers helped the Bears to a 3-2 record during the week

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emma Flathers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Volleyball for the week of September 25 to October 1.

 

Flathers was also honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as she was named the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the Week of Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. Flathers is the second DMACC volleyball player to be honored by the NJCAA, joining sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll who was named the Division II Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 13 to 19.

 

The ICCAC honor is the second for Flathers this season and she is the second DMACC volleyball player to be honored by the conference this season. She earned the honor for the week of Sept. 11 to 17. Prescott was honored defensively for the week of Sept. 11 to 17.

 

Flathers had 184 assists in 18 sets as the Bears compiled a 3-2 record during the week with wins over Kirkwood Community College (KCC), Owens Community College (OCC) and Madison Community College (MCC) and losses to Parkland College (PC) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC). Flathers also collected her 1,000th career assist during the week.

 

Flathers had 39 assists in a 3-0 win over KCC on Sept. 27. She collected 33 and 53 assists respectively in 3-1 and 3-2 losses to PC and LLCC on Sept. 29 and came away with 25 and 34 assists respectively in 3-0 wins over OCC and MCC.

 

Flathers is ranked second in the ICCAC with an average of 10.17 assists per set. She is third in total sets this season with 793.

 

In addition to her assists, Flathers' season includes 65 kills, 33 ace serves, 205 digs and 41 blocks, including 31 block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 16th in the NJCAA Division II poll, will host the DMACC Tournament Oct. 6 and 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will face Heartland Community College (HCC) and Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) on Oct. 6 and will meet Illinois Central College (ICC) on Oct. 7. HCC is ranked eighth in NJCAA Division II and ICC is ranked 12th.
