DMACC volleyball team upsets sixth-ranked Kirkwood CC, 3-0
  • Sophomore Eden Wilson leads DMACC with 11 kills

Sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad had 11 kills and sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood added 10 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 upset of sixth-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) September 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won by set scores  25-13, 25-16, 25-18. KCC came into the match ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division II poll.

 

With the win, DMACC improved to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Wilson hit .381 with her 11 kills coming from 21 attacks with three hitting errors. Matheny hit .333 with her 10 kills coming from 27 attacks with one hitting error. Sophomores Kylie Henry of Urbana and Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had six kills apiece with Henry coming away with a .625 hitting percentage. As a team, DMACC hit. 330 with 41 kills from 97 attacks with three hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor led the Bears in assists with 39 and contributed four ace serves. Sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada also had four ace serves.

 

Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led DMACC in digs with 18 and Matheny finished with 13. Freshman Abbi Brenizer of Norwalk had three block assists and Wilson, Flathers and Henry had two blocks apiece.

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Parkland Tournament Sept. 29 and 30 at Champaign, Ill. The Bears will face fifth-ranked Parkland College (PC) and 10th-ranked Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) on Sept. 29 and will play second-ranked Owens Community College (OCC) and No. 14 Madison Community. College (MCC) on Sept. 30.
