DMACC volleyball team drops 3-1 decision to Iowa Central

 

Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) dealt the DMACC volleyball team a 3-1 loss September 21 at Fort Dodge, ending the Bears' four-match winning streak and dropping them to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The Tritons, ranked eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, defeated No. 19 DMACC by set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-19 and 25-20.

 

Sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood topped DMACC with 14 kills and a .262 hitting percentage, getting her kills from 42 attacks with three hitting errors. Sophomore Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had eight kills, sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad finished with seven and sophomore Monica Mirembe of Ankeny had six.

 

As a team, DMACC hit .229. The Bears had 40 kills from 140 attacks with eight hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor led DMACC in assists with 32 and had two ace serves and 17 digs. Sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada also had two ace serves and finished with 13 digs. Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led the Bears in digs with 19.

 

Hendricks topped DMACC in blocks with five, including four block assists, and sophomore Kylie Henry of Conrad had four blocks, including three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is idle until Sept. 27 when the Bears will host sixth ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC). The Eagles are 17-3 overall and 5-0 in the ICCAC.
