DMACC volleyball team upsets No. 14 Northeast (Neb.) CC, 3-0
  • Sophomore Eden Wilson leads DMACC with 14 kills
  • Sophomore Coryl Matheny has 11 kills, five ace serves and 16 digs
  • Sophomore Emma Flathers comes away with 38 assists, 10 digs and five block assists

 

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 3-0 upset of Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) September 13 inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC came into the match ranked 14th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

The Bears, who have won seven consecutive matches, won by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.

 

Sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad led the Bears to the win with 14 kills and a .520 hitting percentage. Her 14 kills came from 25 attacks with one hitting error. Sophomore Coryl Matheny of Glenwood contributed 11 kills and sophomores Monica Mirembe of Ankeny and Zophi Hendricks of Defiance came away with seven and six kills respectively.

 

DMACC hit .311 in the win, getting 42 kills from 106 attacks with nine hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor topped the Bears in assists with 38 and in blocks with five solo blocks and she finished with 10 digs. Hendricks had five ace serves and 16 digs and sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led DMACC in digs with 19.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the NDSCS Tournament September 15 and 16 at Wahpeton, N.D. The Bears will face North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) and Bismarck State on Sept. 15 and will play Central Lakes College (CLC) and Minnesota State Community and Technical College (MSCTC) on Sept. 16. CLC is ranked 15th in NJCAA Division III.
