DMACC volleyball team sweeps three-set match from SCC

 

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) September 6 at West Burlington.

 

The Bears won by set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-23. The win was the sixth straight and head coach Danielle Lopez celebrated her 50th career victory.

 

Sophomore Zophi Hendricks of Defiance led DMACC with 10 kills and a .259 hitting percentage with her 10 kills coming from 27 attacks with three hitting errors. Sophomore Eden Wilson of Conrad had eight kills, sophomores Coryl Matheny of Glenwood and Monica Mirembe of Ankeny had seven apiece and sophomore Kylie Henry of Urbana came away with six.

 

The Bears hit .250 in the win, getting 40 kills from 121 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Emma Flathers of Treynor topped DMACC in assists with 38 and Matheny had three ace serves.

 

Sophomore Kenya Prescott of Carroll led five players in double figures in digs with 30. Matheny had 16, sophomore Jerica Heintz of Polk City came away with 12 and sophomore Maddie Dunham of Nevada and Mirembe had 11 and 10 respectively.

 

The DMACC volleyball team is idle until Sept. 13 when the Bears will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC). Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Hawks are 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC.
