DMACC volleyball team drops 3-2 decision to KCC in Region XI-B championship match

 

Freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad had 21 kills and freshman Coryl Matheny of Glenwood added 15 as the DMACC volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B championship match November 3 at Cedar Rapids.

 

KCC, ranked seventh in this week's NJCAA Division II poll, won by set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-12. DMACC closed the season at 22-15. KCC advances to the NJCAA North Central B Tournament Nov. 5 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Wilson hit .286 in the match, getting her 21 kills from 56 attacks with five hitting errors. Matheny's 15 kills came from 54 attacks with six hitting errors, giving her a hitting percentage of .167. DMACC hit .175 in the loss, coming away with 51 kills from 189 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson topped the Bears in assists with 46 and freshman Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed three ace serves. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll led six DMACC players in double figures in digs with 34. Hansen and sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames had 15 digs apiece, Matheny had 13 and Dunham and freshman Karlee Timm of Victor finished with 11 apiece. Timm led the Bears in blocks with four, including three block assists.

 

Wilson, Hansen and Prescott were named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the match.
