DMACC volleyball team drops 3-1 decision to Southeastern

 

The DMACC volleyball team fell to 20-13 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 3-1 loss to Southeastern Community College (SECC) October 19 at West Burlington.

 

Freshman Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had 10 kills as the Bears, ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, lost by set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 16-25. Freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad added eight kills for DMACC, which hit .145 in the loss. The Bears got 35 kills from 138 with 15 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson topped DMACC in assists with 31 and freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll had two ace serves and led the Bears in digs with 25. Hansen and freshman Maddie Dunham of Nevada had 11 digs apiece. Freshman Monica Mirembe of Ankeny led DMACC in blocks with six, including four block assists, and Hendricks and freshmen freshman Kylie Henry of Urbana and Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel had three blocks apiece with Henry and Hidlebugh getting three block assist and Hendricks coming away with two.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will be home to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) on Oct. 24. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IHCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 36-2 overall and 3-0 in Division I of the ICCAC. The Warriors are ranked third in the NJCAA Division I poll.
