DMACC volleyball team splits two matches in Iowa Central Tournament

 

The DMACC volleyball team came away with a win and a loss in the Iowa Central Tournament Oct. 14 at Fort Dodge.

 

Freshman Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had 19 kills and freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad added 12 as the Bears dropped a 3-1 decision to Neosho County Community College (NCCC) in their tournament opener. Hendricks had 12 kills and sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson finished with 31 assists as DMACC defeated Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC), 3-0 in its second tournament match.

 

DMACC, ranked 18th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, ran its record to 20-12 for the season.

 

NCCC defeated DMACC by set scores of 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 as the Bears hit .236 in the loss. They came away with 50 kills from 165 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson topped DMACC in assists with 38 and also had two ace serves and two block assists. Freshman Keyna Prescott of Carroll led four players in double figures in digs with 25. Sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames finished with 17 digs and freshman Jerica Heintz of Polk City and Hansen had 16 and 13 respectively.

 

Wilson joined Hendricks in double figures in kills with 11 as DMACC handed SVCC a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 loss. The Bears hit .147 in the win, getting 33 kills from 116 attacks with 16 hitting errors. Hendricks completed the tournament with a team-high 31 kills and Wilson finished with 23.

 

Hansen led DMACC in assists with 31, giving her 69 for the tournament, and also had 10 digs. Prescott led DMACC with 17 digs, giving her 42 for the tournament. Freshman Kylie Henry of Urbana had six blocks, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team, 5-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) will play Southeastern Community College (SECC) Oct. 19 at West Burlington. SECC is 20-18 overall and 2-5 in the ICCAC.
