DMACC volleyball team takes 3-1 decision from Northeast

 

Freshmen Eden Wilson of Conrad and Zophi Hendricks of Defiance combined for 36 kills in leading the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) October 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 18th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated the Hawks by set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18 to improve to 19-11 overall and 5-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Wilson came away with 24 kills and a .500 hitting percentage and Hendricks had 12 kills in the win. Wilson got her 24 kills from 42 attacks with three hitting errors. The Bears hit .266 in the match, finishing with 54 kills from 158 attacks with 12 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson led DMACC in assists with 43 and also had 13 digs. Freshmen Kenya Prescott of Carroll and Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed three ace serves apiece. Prescott topped the Bears in digs with 32 and sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames and freshman Jerica Heintz of Polk City had 12 digs apiece. Freshmen Kylie Henry of Urbana and Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel had five blocks apiece with Henry getting five block assists and Hidlebugh finishing with four.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Iowa Central Tournament Oct. 14 at Fort Dodge. The Bears will face Neosho County Community College (NCCC) and Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) in the tournament.
