DMACC volleyball team splits two matches in NIACC tourney

The DMACC volleyball team is 18-11 for the season after splitting two matches in the NIACC Tournament October 7 at Mason City.

 

DMACC, ranked 16th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, defeated Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) rival Ellsworth Community College (ECC), 3-0, in its first tournament match and then dropped a 3-0 decision to Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) in the second match.

 

Freshman Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had 16 kills and freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad added 10 in the Bears' 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 win over ECC. DMACC hit .179 in the win, getting 39 kills from 123 attacks with 17 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson led the Bears in assists with 34 and freshman Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed two ace serves. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll came away with 25 digs and Hansen and freshman Jerica Heintz of Polk City had 20 and 10 respectively. Hendricks and freshmen Kylie Henry of Urbana and Karlee Timm of Victor had two block assists apiece.

 

Wilson had eight kills and Hendricks added five as DMACC lost to RVCC for the second time this season, 18-25, 20-25, 20-25. The Bears hit .144 in the match, getting 23 kills from 97 attacks with nine hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 18, giving her 52 for the two matches. Prescott topped DMACC in digs with 17 and Hansen came away with 10. Timm had three blocks, including two solo blocks.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in an ICCAC matchup Oct. 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m. DMACC is 4-2 in the conference. NECC IS 15-13 overall and 2-4 in the ICCAC.
