DMACC's Emma Flathers named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II volleyball
  • Flathers had 153 assists in 14 sets during the week
  • Flathers averaged 10.93 assists per set, ninth best in NJCAA Division II
  • Flathers recorded four double-doubles

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Emma Flathers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II volleyball (offense) for the week of September 19 to 25.

 

Flathers, a freshman from Treynor, is the second DMACC volleyball player to be honored by the ICCAC this season. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll was honored for her defensive performance the week of  Sept. 12 to 18.

 

Flathers recorded 153 assists in 14 sets during the week, averaging 10.93 assists per set, ninth best in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Flathers has had 30 or more assists in five of the Bears' last nine matches, including a 50-assist performance in DMACC's 3-1 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) in the Cowley Invitational Sept. 23 and 24 at Arkansas City, Kan.

 

Flathers had double-doubles in two of DMACC's three wins in the tournament. She had 12 digs to go with her 50 assists in the win against CCC and recorded 23 assists and 13 digs in a 3-0 loss to second-ranked Cowley County Community College (CCCC).

 

Flathers has 273 assists this season and is averaging 7.38 assists per set. Her season also includes 22 kills, nine ace serves, 89 digs and eight blocks, including five block assists.

The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 12th in NJCAA Division II, will host Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in an ICCAC matchup tonight. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are undefeated in conference play at 4-0. ICCC is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II. The Tritons are also 4-0 in the conference and 17-4 overall.
