DMACC volleyball team tops NIACC in four sets

 

The DMACC volleyball team improved to 11-6 overall and remained unbeaten in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at 4-0 with a 3-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) September 21 at Mason City.

 

The Bears, ranked 19th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), defeated the Trojans by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22.

 

Freshman Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel led three players in double figures in kills with 12. Freshmen Eden Wilson of Conrad and Zophi Hendricks of Defiance had 11 and 10 respectively and freshman Monica Mirembe of Ankeny barely missed double figures with nine kills.

 

The Bears hit .227 in the win, getting 53 kills from 169 attacks with 18 hitting errors. Hidlebugh hit .440 with her 12 kills coming from 25 attacks with just one hitting error.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson topped DMACC in assists with 33 and freshman Emma Flathers of Treynor finished with 11. Freshman Keyna Prescott of Carroll led three players in double figures in digs with 22. Sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames had 14 digs and freshman Jerica Heintz of Polk City had 10. Mirembe led the Bears in blocks with six, including five block assists. Hansen had three block assists and Hidlebugh and freshman Kylie Henry of Urbana had two block assists apiece.

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Cowley Invitational Sept. 23 and 24 at Arkansas City, Kan. The Bears will face Northeast Oklahoma A&M College (NEOAM) and Cowley County Community College (CCCC) on Sept. 23 and will play Central (Neb.) Community College (CNCC) and Metropolitan (Kan.) Community College (MCC) on Sept. 24. CCCC is ranked second in NJCAA Division II
