DMACC volleyball team tops ILCC for fourth straight win

 

The DMACC volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four consecutive matches with a 3-0 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) September 7 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Coryl Matheny of Glenwood had nine kills, freshman Monica Mirembe of Ankeny added eight and freshmen Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel and Kylie Henry of Urbana finished with six apiece as the Bears won by set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.

 

DMACC hit .309 in the win, getting 38 kills from 94 attacks with nine hitting errors. Henry hit .444 in the win, Mirembe hit .400 and Matheny hit .364.

 

Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson finished the match with 28 assists and freshmen Kenya Prescott of Carroll and Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed two ace serves apiece. Prescott and Dunham led the Bears in digs with 15 and 11 respectively. Henry, Hidlebugh and Mirembe had two block assists apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Hawkeye Community College (HCC) Sept. 14 at Waterloo. HCC is 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC. The Redtails are ranked ninth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
