DMACC volleyball team sweeps two matches in Southeastern Classic
  • DMACC improves to 7-3 with second and third consecutive victories
  • Freshman Eden Wilson leads DMACC with 11 and nine kills respectively
  • Sophomore Sara Hansen has 59 assists in the two matches

 

The DMACC volleyball team improved to 7-3 for the season with victories over Highland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) and Spoon River College (SRC) in the Southeastern Classic September 2 at West Burlington.

 

Freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad had 11 kills in a 3-0 win over HCC and came away with nine kills in a 3-0 win against SRC.

 

Freshmen Coryl Matheny of Glenwood and Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel had eight kills apiece and sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson contributed six as DMACC defeated HCC 25-10, 25-10, 25-18. The Bears hit .268 in the win, getting 41 kills from 97 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 29 and sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames, Matheny and Hansen had five, four and three ace serves respectively. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll led three DMACC players in double figures in digs with 21. Matheny added 11 and freshman Maddie Dunham of Nevada finished with 10. Matheny and freshmen Kylie Henry of Urbana and Monica Mirembe of Ankeny had two block assists apiece.

 

Wilson's nine kills, eight from Matheny and seven by Mirembe led DMACC to a 25-23, 25-10, 25-18 decision against SRC. The Bears hit .210 in the win, getting 40 kills from 119 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 30, giving her 59 for the two matches, and also contributed a pair of ace serves. Prescott came away with 35 digs and Bathie added 23. Henry and Hidlebugh led DMACC in block assists with four and three respectively.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will be home to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Sept. 7. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. DMACC is 1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). ILCC is 5-10 overall and 0-1 in the ICCAC.
