DMACC volleyball team falls to IHCC, defeats SWCC

 

The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after splitting matches against Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) August 29 and 31 respectively.

 

Freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad had 10 kills and freshman Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel finished with seven as DMACC dropped a 14-25, 21-25, 21-25 decision to IHCC at Ottumwa. The Warriors are ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll.

 

The Bears hit .156 in the loss, getting 23 kills from 77 attacks with 11 hitting errors. Sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson finished the match with 18 assists and freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll topped DMACC in digs with 12. Hidlebugh came away with four blocks, including three block assists.

 

Hidlebugh had eight kills and Wilson and freshman Maddie Dunham of Nevada contributed five apiece as the Bears opened ICCAC play with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-15 decision against SWCC at Creston.

 

DMACC hit .188 in the match, getting 30 kills from 96 attacks with 12 hitting errors. Hansen again led DMACC in assists with 25, giving her 43 for the two matches. Sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames had three ace serves and Prescott and Timm finished with 16 and 10 digs respectively. Hidlebugh had four blocks, including three block assists, and Hansen finished with three blocks, including two solo blocks.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Southeastern Tournament Sept. 2 at West Burlington. The Bears will face Highland (Ill.) Community College (HCC) in their first match and will play Spoon River College (SRC) in their second match.
