DMACC volleyball team splits four matches in Opening Weekend Tournament

The DMACC volleyball team came away with a 2-2 record in the Opening Weekend Tournament August 19 and 20 at Rockford, Ill. The Bears split two matches each day, losing to Illinois Central College (ICC) and defeating St. Clair County Community College (SCCCC) on Aug. 19 and defeating Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) before losing to Muskegon Community College (MCC) on Aug. 20.

 

Freshman Eden Wilson of Conrad led the Bears in kills with a total of 58 in the four matches. Wilson had 17 kills and sophomore Sara Hansen of Hudson came away with seven in DMACC's 23-25, 23-25, 23-25 loss to ICC in the Bears' season opener. They hit just .123 with 40 kills coming from 138 attacks with 23 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led DMACC in assists with 27 and also had 14 digs. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll topped the Bears in digs with 31 and freshman Zophi Hendricks of Defiance added 12. Sophomore Karlee Timm of Victor finished with four blocks, including three block assists.

 

Wilson had 18 kills and Timm added seven as DMACC picked up its first win of the season in a 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 decision against SCCCC. The Bears hit .166 in the win, getting 46 kills from 163 attacks with 19 hitting errors. Hansen added six kills and sophomore Haylee Hidlebugh of Adel finished with five.

 

Hansen led DMACC in assists with 30 and freshmen Maddie Dunham of Nevada and Jerica Heintz of Polk City had five and three ace serves respectively. Prescott led four DMACC players in double figures in digs with 25. Dunham came away with 21, Hansen had 18 and sophomore Erin Bathie of Ames finished with 13. Timm topped DMACC in blocks with four, including three block assists.

 

Wilson's 15 kills, 10 apiece from Dunham and Hidlebugh and nine each by Hansen and Timm lifted DMACC to a 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23 win over KCKCC. The Bears had a .275 hitting percentage in the win, getting 56 kills from 138 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Hansen finished with 34 assists and a team-high 18 digs and Dunham, Bathie and Prescott added 15, 13 and 10 digs respectively. Timm had three block assists for the Bears.

 

Wilson had eight kills and Hansen and Timm added seven apiece as DMACC dropped a 17-25, 25-19, 25-27, 14-25 decision to MCC in its final match of the tournament. The Bears hit just .113 in the loss, getting 37 kills from 168 attacks with 18 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 24 and Dunham contributed two ace serves. Prescott topped DMACC in digs with 36, Bathie finished with 18, Hansen had 13 and Dunham came with 10. Wilson and freshman Kylie Henry of Urbana led the Bears in blocks with four apiece, including three block assists apiece.
