DMACC volleyball season ends with 3-0 loss to ICCC
  • Loss comes in championship match of NJCAA Region XI-A tournament
  • Bears advance to championship match with win over SECC
  • ICCC defeated DMACC three times this season

 

The DMACC volleyball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the championship match of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-A Volleyball Tournament Oct. 31 at Fort Dodge.

 

ICCC, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II poll, won by set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-20. The win was the Tritons' third of the season against DMACC.

 

DMACC, which closed the season at 19-15, advanced to the championship match with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) Oct. 30 at Fort Dodge. ICCC advanced behind a 3-0 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), also on Oct. 30.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport led the Bears with 11 kills and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had nine. DMACC hit just .122, getting 32 kills from 123 attacks with 17 hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson topped the Bears in assists with 28 and also contributed two ace serves. Welch led DMACC in digs with 12. CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque and CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville had 11 digs apiece and Hansen finished with 10.

 

CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll had 12 kills, Welch and Weinkoetz finished with 11 and nine respectively and CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker had eight in DMACC's 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 win over SECC. Weinkoetz hit .467, getting her nine kills from 15 attacks with two hitting errors. Welch hit .357 with 11 kills coming from 28 attacks and one hitting error and Niehaus hit .286 with her 12 kills coming from 28 attacks with four hitting errors. Maue finished with a .278 hitting percentage with her eight kills coming from 18 attacks with three hitting errors.

 

As a team, DMACC hit .261, getting 43 kills from 119 attacks with 12 hitting errors.

 

Hansen led the Bears in assists with 36 and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada had a pair of ace serves. Eddy topped DMACC in digs with 18 and Hansen and Tupper had 11 and 10 respectively. Maue came away with seven blocks, including six block assists, and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk had four block assists.

 

With its win, ICCC advances to the NJCAA Division II National Championship Nov. 18 to 20 at Cedar Rapids.
