DMACC volleyball team falls to Northeast (Neb.) CC, 3-2

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) October 30 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

NENEB won by set scores of 21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 15-7 as DMACC closed the season at 18-17 overall and 6-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison paced DMACC with 26 kills, three ace serves and a .344 hitting percentage. Her 26 kills came from 61 attacks with six hitting errors. Sophomore Kyra Ikeda of Cedar Rapids had 12 kills and freshman Darian Gray of Mechanicsville added nine.

 

DMACC hit .153 in the loss, getting 56 kills from 215 attacks with 23 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs had 52 assists for the Bears and freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center led five players in double figures in digs with 42. Gray added 24, freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin finished with 23, Schaa contributed 22 and Ikeda came away with 13. Freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames topped DMACC in blocks with six, including four block assists. Dilsaver and Gray had three block assists apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will be the No. 5 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Volleyball Tournament. The Bears will face fourth-seeded Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the Region XI-A semifinals Nov. 2 at Fort Dodge. Top-seeded Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) will meet eighth-seeded Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the other semifinal matchup. The two semifinal winners will play in the Region XI-A championship match Nov. 3 at Fort Dodge.

 

DMACC dropped 3-0 and 3-1 decisions to ICCC and KCC respectively during the regular season. The Bears defeated ILCC, 3-0, also during the regular season.
