The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team came away with a win and a loss in the Yellowjacket Invitational September 6 at Rochester, Minn.

The Bears took a 3-0 decision from Madison Community College (MCC) in their tournament opener and dropped a 3-1 verdict to Rochester Technical Community College (RTCC) in their second match. The split gives DMACC a 4-4 record for the season.

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison had 12 kills and two ace serves and the Bears hit .270 in defeating MCC 25-10, 25-12, 25-5. DMACC collected 31 kills from 89 attacks with seven hitting errors. Freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., and sophomore Dorian Gray of Mechanicsville had eight and six kills respectively in the win.

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs topped the Bears in assists with 28 and Gray and freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center contributed three ace serves apiece. Gray led DMACC in digs with 17 and Kelley and Miles finished with 15 and 14 respectively. Freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames had six blocks, including five solo blocks, and freshman Aniyah Loftus of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, had four blocks, two solo blocks and two block assists.

Dilsaver had 17 kills and Kelley added 14 as RTCC defeated DMACC by scores of 18-25, 12-25, 25-17, 21-25. The Bears hit .129 in the match, getting 43 kills from 163 attacks with 22 hitting errors.

Schaa again topped DMACC in assists with 42 and Miles led the way in digs with 31. Gray finished with 23 digs, Kelley had 12 and Schaa contributed 11. Courtney topped the Bears in blocks with four, including three block assists, and Dilsaver and Kelley had three blocks apiece.

The DMACC volleyball team will host Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup today inside the DMACC gymnasium. Match time is 6:30 p.m. DMACC is 1-0 in conference play. ICCC, ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, is 11-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
