The DMACC women's golf team posted a 360 in the final round of the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Women's National Championship May 16 at Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone and closed the tournament with a tie for seventh place.
The Bears' 72-hole score of 1383 put them in a tie with Jefferson State Community College (JSCC) in the team race. Shelton State Community College (SSCC) captured the team championship with a 72-hole score of 1275 and finished 34 strokes ahead of Mesa Community College (MCC). Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), DMACC's rival in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), finished third at 1345.
Kamryn Johnston of Mott Community College (MCC) and Ivanna Becerra-Diaz of ICCC shared medalist honors with 72-hole scores of 309, 21 strokes over par.
DMACC was led by sophomore Halle Hagberg of Polk City. She tied for 16th with a 329 after shooting an 88 in the final round. Hagberg's finish was good enough to place her on the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the tournament.
DMACC sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, tied for 27th place and freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert and sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon tied for 44th and 59th respectively.
The Bears got an 83 from van Hemert in the final round for a four-round total of 339 and Loonan shot a 95 in the final round for a 72-hole score of 355. Houtakker posted a 94 on her final round and completed the tournament at 368.
Two other DMACC golfers, sophomore Viola Welsh of Fairfield and freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell, also played in the tournament. Welsh played 54 holes, posting scores of 93, 85 and 95 for a 54-hole score of 273 and finished in 78th place. Carlson played one round, shooting a 93, and finished in 82nd place.
Two other ICCAC teams, North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) also played in the tournament, finishing sixth and 11th respectively. NIACC posted a 358 in the fourth round, finishing with 1382 strokes and ILCC shot a 352 in the final round for a 72-hole score of 1411.
The tournament closed out the 2024-25 season for the DMACC women's golf team.
