Sophomores Halle Hagberg of Polk City and Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands tied for second place in the individual competition in leading the DMACC women's golf team to the team championship in the NIACC Spring Invitational April 22 at Legends Golf Course in Mason City.
Hagberg and van Hemert shot eight-over-par 80s as the Bears took the title with an 18-hole score of 339, one stroke better than the 340 turned in by the North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). NIACC's Meghan DeLong won medalist honors with a three-over-par 75.
DMACC sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon tied for eighth place with an 89 and freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert finished in 11-place with a 90. Sophomore Viola Welsh of Fairfield rounded out DMACC's performance with a 98 and finished in 16th place.
Freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell played in the individual competition of the tournament and tied for 14th with a 93.
The DMACC women's golf team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District Qualifier April 28 and 29 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
