DMACC women's golf team finishes third in Baker Invitational

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the Baker Invitational March 10 and 11 at Great Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan. The tournament was the Bears' first of 2024-25 spring season.

 

After shooting a 352 in their opening round on March 10, DMACC came back with a 338 on March 11 for a 36-hole score of 690. Taylor University (TU) captured the team championship with a team score of 620 and TU's Eleanor Schuitema took medalist honors with a three-over-par 147. Schuitema shot a one-under-par 71 in the second round to go with a 76 in the first round.

 

Baker University (BU) placed second with a two-day score of 628.

 

DMACC sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, led the Bears on rounds of 85 and 79 for a 36-hole score of 164. She finished 10th in the individual competition.eHem

 

Sophomores Halle Hagberg of Polk City and Lilly Houtakker of Solon tied for 13th and 17th respectively. Hagberg shot an 88 on the second day to go with an 82 on the first day, giving her a two-day total of 170. Houtakker posted a 93 on the first day and a 84 on the second day for a 36-hole score of 177.

 

DMACC sophomore Viola Welsh of Fairfield and freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert finished 22nd and 23rd respectively. Welsh had a 36-hole score of 192 after a 90 on the second day and Loonan finished with a two-day total of 183 after shooting an 87 on her second day.

 

DMACC freshman Abby Cook of Story City competed as an individual and finished in 29th place. She shot identical rounds of 100 for a 36-hole score of 200.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Hawkeye CC Invitational April 3 at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.
