DMACC women's golf team finishes second in Redtail Fall Classic

 

Three members of the DMACC women's golf team finished in the top 10 as the Bears came away with a second-place finish in the Redtail Fall Classic Oct. 4 at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike.

 

Sophomore Viola Welsh of Fairfield finished second, freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert was fifth and sophomore Hallie Hagberg of Polk City tied for seventh as the Bears finished the 18-hole tournament with 330 strokes, seven strokes behind the winning total of 323 strokes by North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC).

 

NIACC's Meghan DeLong took medalist honors with a one-under-par 71.

 

Welsh posted a 77 in finishing second, Loonan was fifth with a 79 and Hagberg's 85 earned her a tie for seventh.

 

Other DMACC results included an 11th-place finish by freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell and sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands. Both shot 89.

 

DMACC freshman Abby Cook of Story City and sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon competed in the tournament as individuals. Cook finished in 15th place with a 96 and Houtakker tied for 19th with a 105.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Grand View Invite Oct. 14 and 15 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
