DMACC women's golf team competes in Waldorf tournaments

The DMACC women's golf team finished third and fourth in a pair of Waldorf University tournaments September 29 and 30.

 

The Bears finished third in the Waldorf University Fall Invitational Sept. 29 at Wedgewood Cove Country Club in Albert Lea, Minn, and they were fourth in the Waldorf University Fall Challenge Sept. 30 at Rice Lake Golf and Country Club in Lake Mills.

 

DMACC posted a score of 336 in the Waldorf University Fall Invitational and finished third behind Waldorf University (WU) and Buena Vista University (BVU). WU took the team championship with 324 strokes and BVU was second with 331 strokes.

 

Meghan DeLong of North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) won medalist honors with an even-par 72.

 

Sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, led DMACC with an eight-over-par 80 and tied for sixth place. Freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert shot an 83 and tied for tenth and sophomore Halle Hagberg of Polk City came away with a tie for 16th after shooting an 86.

 

Other DMACC results included a tie for 20th from freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell and a tie for 30th from sophomore Viola Welsh of Fairfield. Carlson shot an 87 and Welsh turned in a 90.

 

DMACC sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon and freshman Abby Cook of Story City competed in the tournament as individuals and both tied for 38th place after shooting 93s.

 

DMACC posted a 353 in finishing fourth in the Waldorf University Fall Challenge. Simpson College (SC) won the title with a 332 and WU finished second at 335. NIACC took third with a 347.

 

DeLong again took medalist honors, shooting a two-over-par 73.

 

DMACC's top finisher was van Hemert who shot an 86 and tied for 12th. Loonan tied for 16th with an 87 and Carlson tied for 18th with an 88. Welsh and Hagberg closed out DMACC's performance with a tie for 22nd and a 26th-place finish respectively. Welsh shot a 92 and Hagberg turned in a 95.

 

Cook and Houtakker again competed as individuals and finished 30th and 31st respectively. Cook shot and 101 and Houtakker posted a 106.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Redtail Classic Oct. 4 at Fox Run Golf Course in Dike.
