DMACC women's golf team finishes second in NIACC Fall Invitational

 

Sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, posted an 18-hole score of 82 to lead the DMACC women's golf team to a second-place finish in the NIACC Fall Invitational September 17 at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City.

 

The Bears finished the 18-hole tournament with 335 strokes, 12 strokes behind the winning total of 323 by Waldorf College (WC). DMACC finished one stroke ahead of North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and two strokes ahead of Iowa Central Community College (ICCC).

 

NIACC's Meghan DeLong took medalist honors with a one-over-par 73.

 

In addition to van Hemert's tie for fifth place in the individual competition, DMACC got an eighth-place tie from sophomore Halle Hagberg of Polk City, an 11th-place tie from sophomore Lilly Houtakker of Solon and freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert and a tie for 14th by freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell.

 

Hagberg shot an 83, Houtakker and Loonan posted 85s and Carlson turned in an 86.

 

Two DMACC golfers, freshmen Viola Welsh of Fairfield and Abby Cook of Story City, played as individuals and shot 90 and 99 respectively. Welsh finished in 20th place and Cook tied for. 31st.

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Jim Curell Invitational Sept. 27 at Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone.
