DMACC women's golf team wins Battle of Waterloo
  • Sophomore Meg Thompson and freshman Annie Burns lead DMACC with a tie for third place
  • Freshman Anne Van Hemert ties for fifth place
  • Freshman Viola Walsh finishes in eighth place

 

The DMACC women's golf team captured the team championship in the Battle of Waterloo September 15 and 16 at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.

 

The Bears posted a 238 in their opening round and shot 221 in their second round for a 36-hole total of 459 and finished 13 strokes in front of Viterbo University (VU). Chase Doland of Hawkeye Community College (HCC) took medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 13-over-par 157.

 

Sophomore Meg Thompson of Greene and freshman Annie Burns of Algona led DMACC with two-round totals of 163. Thompson turned in rounds of 82 and 81 and Burns shot scores of 83 and 80. They tied for third place in the individual competition.

 

DMACC got a fifth-place finish from freshman Anne Van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, freshman Viola Welsh of Fairfield finished eighth and sophomore Erin Winker of Carroll finished in 12th place. Van Hemert turned in scores of 89 and 75 for a 36-hole score of 164, Welsh posted rounds of 84 and 85 for a two-day total of 169 and Winker shot rounds of 94 and 86 for a 180 total.

 

Other DMACC results included a tie for 15th by freshman Alexis Barber of Newell and a tie for 17th by freshman Halle Hagberg of Polk City. Barber shot rounds of 93 and 92 for a two-day total of 185 and Hagberg posted rounds of 102 and 95 to finish the tournament with 197 strokes.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the NIACC Invite Sept. 26 at Highland Golf Course in Mason City.
