DMACC women's golf team finishes fourth in NJCAA Plains District championship

 

Freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, finished seventh in the individual competition and led the DMACC women's golf team to a fourth-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Plains District Championship April 25 and 26 at Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Junction City, Kan.

 

Michel turned in rounds of 78 and 84 for a 36-hole score of 162 in finishing seventh. She was one stroke out of sixth place, two strokes out of fifth place and three strokes from finishing fourth. Michel's performance qualified her for the 2022 NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship May 9 to 12 at Mayfield Country Club in Sanford, Fla.

 

Thitapha Iamtragul of Dodge City Community College (DCCC) took medalist honors with a score of 149 on rounds of 74 and 75.

 

The DMACC women's golf team posted scores of 349 and 353 for a two-round total of 702. Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) won the team championship with a 36-hole score of 621.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Taylor Balsley of Ames finish 18th and Covid-19 freshmen (CoFR) Quinn Eslinger of Afton and Krista Swenson of Story City tied for 27th. Balsley shot rounds of 87 and 85 for a 36-hole score of 172. Eslinger and Swenson finished at 184 with Eslinger posting scores of 94 and 90 and Swenson turning in rounds of 90 and 94.

Freshman Dani Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., also represented DMACC in the tournament. She finished 36th with a 36-hole score of 195 on rounds of 98 and 97.
