DMACC women's golf team finishes fourth in Jimmie Spring Swing

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with a fourth-place finish in the Jimmie Spring Swing March 28 and 29 at the Ames Golf & Country Club.

 

The Bears, who were tied for third after the first round, posted a 363 in their second round to go with an opening round 366 and finished at 729 strokes for the 36-hole tournament. The University of Sioux Falls (USF) won the team championship with 692 strokes. The University of Jamestown was second at 713 and Bemidji State University (BSU) was third at 722.

 

USF's Paige Hillman took medalist honors with a 17-over-par 159. Hillman opened the tournament with a 75 and shot 84 on her second round.

 

DMACC was led by freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas. Michel shot rounds of 85 and 81 for a 166 total and tied for second with Annie Balduzzi of USF.

 

Other second round scores for DMACC included an 89 by freshman Taylor Balsley of Ames, a 97 by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Krista Swenson of Story City and a 96 by CoFR Quinn Eslinger of Afton. Balsley tied for 15th with a 36-hole score of 184, Swenson tied for 23rd at 188 and Eslinger tied for 31st with a 191 total.

 

DMACC freshman Dani Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., also played in the tournament. She posted in a 105 on her second round and tied for 45th with a 207 total.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will host the DMACC Women's Invitational April 6 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
