DMACC women's golf team finishes third in NW Iowa Collegiate Showcase

The DMACC women's golf team closed out the fall season with a third-place finish in the NW Iowa Collegiate Showcase October 11 and 12 at the Spencer Golf and Country Club in Spencer.

 

The Bears, led by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Krista Swenson of Story City, posted a 339 in the second round, the second-best score of the day, to climb from fourth place to third place in the tournament standings. DMACC shot 362 in the first round.

 

Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) won the team championship with a 36-hole score of 674. Briar Cliff University (BCU) finished second at 698 and DMACC was third with a 701. The Bears finished three strokes ahead of Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC).

 

DWU's Megan Hinker was the tournament medalist with a 159, finishing two strokes ahead of Molly Diekmann of BCU and Kelly Winter of ILCC. Hinker posted an 81 in her second round.

 

Swenson led DMACC with a 166, shooting an 80 in the tournament's second day to go with an 86 on the first day. She finished fourth in the individual competition.

 

Freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, tied for sixth with a 36-hole score of 172. She posted an 84 in the second day after shooting an 88 on the first day.

 

Rounding out DMACC's performance were freshmen Taylor Balsley of Ames, Danielle Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., and Quinn Eslinger of Afton. Balsley shot 86 in her second round for a two-day total of 182 and finished in 15th place. Holde posted an 89 to go with a 97 and tied for 19th with a 36-hole score of 186. Eslinger tied for 30th with a 192 after shooting 100 in her second round.

 

DMACC CoFR Frannie Brown of Grundy Center competed for individual honors in the tournament. She shot 121 in her second round for a two-day total of 219 and finished in 36th place.
