DMACC women's golf team competes in Waldorf Invite and Waldorf Challenge

DMACC women's golf team competes in Waldorf Invite and Waldorf Challenge
  • Freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, finishes second in both events
  • Freshman Taylor Balsley of Ames ties for seventh in Invite and ties for sixth in Challenge
  • CoFR Krista Swenson of Story City also ties for sixth in Challenge

 

The DMACC women's golf team competed in the Waldorf Invite and the Waldorf Challenge September 26 and 27 and came home in a third-place finish in the Invite on Sept. 26 and a second-place finish in the Challenge on Sept. 27.

 

Waldorf University (WU) took the team championship in the Waldorf Invite at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea, Minn. The Warriors totaled 337 strokes and DMACC tied Dickinson State University (DSU) for third with 344 strokes. WU's Kelly Boleyn took medalist honors with a three-over-par 75 and DMACC freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, finished second with a 77.

 

DMACC freshman Taylor Balsley of Ames tied for seventh with an 85 and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Krista Swenson of Story City tied for 17th with an 89.

 

Other DMACC results included a tie for 21st by freshman Dani Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., and a 31st-place finish by freshman Emmy Monson of Runnells. Nolde shot a 93 and Monson finished with a 99.

 

DSU posted a 341 to take the team championship in the Waldorf Challenge at Rice Lake Golf and Country Club in Rice Lake. DMACC finished second at 350, ten strokes in front of Waldorf University. DSU's Breilyn Riggin took medalist honors with a four-over-par 75 and Michel finished second with an 81.

 

Balsley and Swenson tied for sixth with 87s, Nolde tied for 16th with a 95, freshman Jaiden Wallander of Indianola finished in 22nd place with a 98 and Monson was 26th with a 105.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the Northwest Iowa Collegiate Showcase Oct. 11 and 12 at the Spencer Golf and Country Club in Spencer.
