DMACC women’s golf team finishes 16th in national tournament

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's golf team closed out the 2017-18 season with a 16th-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's National Championship May 14 to 17 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

 

The Bears saved their best performance for last, shooting a 356 on the final day, giving them a 72-hole total of 1,457 strokes. DMACC finished 12 strokes ahead of John A Logan Community College (JLCC) and just two strokes behind 15th-place Rend Lake Community College (RLCC).

 

Daytona State College (DSC) won the team championship with 1,152 strokes after posting a 287 in the final round. DSC's Jiwon Jeon and Grace St-Germain tied for medalist honors at eight-under-par 280.

 

Sophomore Jamie Bellingham of Auckland, New Zealand, led DMACC with an 80 on her final round and finished 40th with a 72-hole score of 336. Sophomore Kortney Orr of Columbus Junction turned in an 84 on her last round and tied for 59th with a four-round score of 352. Freshmen Kylie Nichols of Ogden tied for 85th with a 379 and freshman Alison Schweers of Carroll finished in 93rd place with a score of 390. Nichols posted a 95 on her final round and Schweers shot 97.
