DMACC Women's Golf Team Finishes Second in Region XI Tournament; Qualifiers Four Players for National Tournament

National Qualifiers

Sophomore Jamie Bellingham of Auckland, New Zealand, tied for medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 150 and led the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's golf team to a second-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship April 27 and 28 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.

 

Bellingham posted scores of 79 and 71 on the par-71 layout to tie Cassidy Evreniadis of Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) for medalist honors. IWCC took the team championship with 660 strokes and DMACC was second at 684.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Kylie Nichols of Ogden finish seventh, freshman Alison Schweers of Carroll finished 12th, sophomore Kortney Orr of Columbus Junction tied for 14th and freshman Meghan Matherly of Ankeny finished in 24th place.

 

Nichols shot rounds of 88 and 83 for a 36-hole score of 171, Schweers shot a 180 on rounds of 97 and 83, Orr finished with a 183 on rounds of 91 and 92 and Matherly had a 36-hole score of 204 on back-to-back rounds of 102.

 

Bellingham, Nichols, Schweers and Orr qualified for the NJCAA Women's Golf Championship May 14 to 17 at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz.
