Sophomore Jaime Bellingham of Auckland, New Zealand, took medalist honors with a nine-over-par 82 to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's golf team to the team championship in the Iowa Lakes Fall Tournament September 5 at Okoboji.

The Bears completed tournament play with 355 strokes and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) finished second at 378.

Other DMACC results included an 84 by sophomore Kortney Orr of Columbus Junction, a 94 by freshman Alison Schweers of Carroll, a 95 by freshman Kylie Nichols of Ogden, a 97 by freshman Haley Trueg of Muscatine and a 103 by freshman Meghan Matherly of Ankeny.

Orr finished third, Schweers tied for sixth, Nichols tied for eighth, Trueg finished 10th and Matherly finished 14th.

Former DMACC assistant golf coach Chris Seaboch has taken over as the head coach for the women's golf team with former head coach Larry Briley becoming the assistant coach.

Bellingham, who competed in the national championship last spring, is expected to be the team's top player this fall and Seaboch said Orr has made tremendous strides last season.

"She has improved so much," Seaboch said. "She's ahead of where she was and we're going to continue to look to her for extra leadership and extra output. She and Bellingham are going to set the tone for our freshmen. When we go out and play, these are the scores we're looking for."

Seaboch said the incoming freshmen have varying abilities but high ceilings.

"Some of them can make big strides like Kortney made last year that can be completely different from day one to next spring," Seaboch said. "We have six women and all six will travel to every tournament."

Seaboch said the DMACC women's team will be more competitive that it was last season.

"We've got a good group of girls who want to work hard, show up and compete and take ownership of how they play," Seaboch said.
