DMACC's Mary Walker named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Walker scored 25 points in a 70-55 win over Iowa Central CC
  • Walker tallied 21 points to lead the Bears past Ellsworth CC, 80-64
  • Walker leads DMACC in scoring with a 17.6 average

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Mary Walker the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Women's Basketball for the week of February 3 to 9.

 

Walker, a sophomore from Fonda, is being honored for the second time this season and she is the only member of the DMACC women's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the week of Jan. 13 to 19.

 

Walker scored 46 points in leading the Bears to two wins during the week. She had 25 points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist in a 70-55 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb. 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium and came away with 21 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in an 80-64 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Feb. 8 at Iowa Falls.

 

Walker's 25 points in the win over ICCC included three three-point baskets and she was 4-of-8 from three-point range in the win over ECC.

 

Walker has scored 422 points this season and leads DMACC in scoring with a 17.6 average. She is shooting 36 percent from the field, having made 145 of 408 field goal attempts. Walker has made 63 of 182 three-point attempts for 36 percent and is 69-of-92 from the free throw line for 75 percent.

 

Walker has 118 rebounds on the season, including 80 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.9 rebounds a game. Her season also includes 50 assists, 39 steals and five blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team, 19-7 overall and 10-4 in the ICCAC, will face Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 15. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IWCC is 14-12 overall and 7-7 in the ICCAC. The Reivers' wins include a 66-64 win over DMACC Jan. 15 at Council Bluffs. DMACC brings a six-game winning streak into the contest.
