The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Mary Walker the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Women's Basketball for the week of January 13 to 19.
Walker, a sophomore from Fonda, is being honored for the first time this season and she is the only member of the DMACC women's basketball team to be honored by the conference during the 2024-25 season.
Walker scored 36 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and came away with four steals and the Bears went 1-1 during the week.
Walker scored 10 points with two rebounds, three steals and an assist in a 66-64 loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 15 at Council Bluffs. She had 26 points with four rebounds, a steal and two assists in a 97-48 upset of 17th-ranked Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Jan. 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium. ECC was ranked 17th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll when the game was played.
Walker made eight of 18 field goal attempts in the win over ECC, including four three-pointers from seven attempts. She was perfect at the free throw line, making all six of her attempts.
Walker is averaging 16.8 points a game and is fifth in the ICCAC in scoring. She has scored 303 points and is shooting 35 percent from the field with 106 field goals from 307 attempts. Walker has made 50 of 141 three-point shots for 36 percent and is shooting 73 percent at the free throw line with 41 free throws from 56 attempts.
Walker has 83 rebounds, including 57 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.6 rebounds a game. Her season also includes 40 assists, 27 steals and five blocked shots.
The DMACC women's basketball team, 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the ICCAC, will play Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 14-4 overall and 6-3 in the ICCAC. The Hawks' wins include a 63-57 decision against DMACC Dec. 4 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
