Freshman Chloe Costello of Northwood led five players in double figures with 22 points as the DMACC women's basketball team posted a 97-52 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) December 18 at Fort Dodge.
Freshman Whitney Jensen of Remsen scored 15 points, freshmen Kaylee Stratton of Tiffin and Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls scored 11 points apiece and sophomore Mary Walker of Fonda had 10 points as the Bears improved to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
Stratton made a layup and Costello added a three-pointer as DMACC opened the game with five unanswered points run and never trailed. The Bears led 27-11 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Tritons 18-17 in the second period for a 45-28 halftime cushion. A 29-12 run in the third period gave them a 74-40 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
DMACC shot 43 percent from the field, making 37 of 86 field goal attempts. The Bears were 16-of-34 from three-point range and 7-of-12 from the free throw line. Costello was 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and Jensen made all three of her three-point attempts.
Freshman Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids pulled down 10 rebounds and sophomore Joy Beran of Riceville and freshman Aniston Clayton of Waukee added nine apiece as DMACC came away with a 58-34 advantage on the boards. Stratton had six rebounds and led the Bears in assists and steals with five apiece. Walker had four assists and Jensen came away with four steals.
The DMACC women's basketball team is idle until Jan. 4 when the Bears will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is 12-3 overall and 3-2 in the ICCAC. The Trojans are ranked 15th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
