DMACC women's basketball team falls to North Central Missouri, 70-64

 

North Central Missouri College (NCMC) came from behind to hand the DMACC women's basketball team a 70-64 loss December 6 at Trenton, MO.

 

The Pirates, ranked 11th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, trailed 20-13 at the end of the first quarter, 39-32 at halftime and 52-49 at the end of the third quarter but managed to come away with the win after outscoring DMACC 21-12 in the fourth quarter.

 

The Bears, who fell to 7-4 for the season, were led by sophomore Mary Walker of Fonda with 23 points. Freshman Chloe Costello of Northwood reached double figures with 13 points and sophomore Joy Beran of Riceville and freshman Aunasia Dunn of Kansas City, Mo., had 10 points apiece.

 

DMACC, which has received votes in the NJCAA Division II poll, shot 37 percent in the loss, hitting 23 of 63 field goal attempts. The Bears were 12-of-30 from three-point range and 6-14 from the free throw line.

 

NCMC used 41 percent shooting to come away with the win. The Pirates made 24 of 59 field goal attempts, including six of 19 three-point attempts. They were 16-of-26 from the free throw line.

 

NCMC also came away with a 41-33 advantage in rebounding. Beran's eight rebounds led DMACC and Walker added six. Freshmen Kaylee Stratton of Tiffin and Whitney Jensen of Remsen dished out two assists apiece and Walker topped the Bears in steals with six.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Minnesota West Community College (MWCC) December 11 at Worthington, Minn.
